Book Review: Confessions of a Shopoholic

Rebecca Bloomworth is a Financial Journalist but her own finances are in shambles. Because Rebecca is also a shopaholic (Shopoholic is a person who has an urge to shop even/often at the expense of their relationships/job. They may go without eating/breathing but they can’t do without shopping. Some shop out of loneliness, others for the rush of it, still others to fill some inner need. Some seek greater self-esteem, others use it to battle depression. Some shop to return to a happy childhood, others to escape a bad one.) Confessions of a shopaholic is the story of how the life of this incorrigible shopaholic sinks to the bottom before she emerges out of her trouble a winner. As the book begins we find Rebecca eyeball deep in debt because of her shopping sprees. & to get over her low feelings she must shop more!!!(Being a True Blue Shopoholic) She devises one hilarious plan after another to cut her costs which often result in her spending even more than before. (She tries to cook at home instead of getting takeaway –for this buys a variety of spices n utensils, ultimately after many attempts n slogging for hours curry turns out way too spicy …after all this major spending she has to order a takeaway anyways!!!) & She also has a knack for walking herself into disastrous situation. Quite a deadly combo; All these create many laugh out loud hilarious moments in the book.
Confessions of a shopaholic can be seen as a time pass read with harmless fun but i saw it as a commentary against over consumption though in a roundabout manner.
I love chicklits. I love books written in first person. I love self deprecating humor. This book is/has all three. No wonder I finished it in 2-3 days.
