(Karwa Chauth is a fast undertaken by married Hindu women who offer prayers seeking the welfare, prosperity, well-being, and longevity of their husbands. It is said to have an extraordinary observance rate among married Hindu women. Following a bath early in the morning, well before dawn, the woman adorns new clothes and partakes of a meal of very select grains and fruit. For the remainder of the day, the woman is bound to abstain from food and even water. )http://www.lakshminarayantemple.com/karwachauth.html)

It surprises me…not a little that in this day & age women actually do such silly things & I mean why?? WHY?? & How can they?? To me this undermines the position of women vis-à-vis men in a very gross kind of way & so do other things which very much exist in our days n times

~ A woman changing her last name after marriage to her husband’s…& these days its kinda fashionable among married women to sport two last names …one their father’s & their husband’s…is this liberation or a double whammy of subjugation?

~ A married woman sporting mangalsutra, sindoor, red bangles…all signs of her ownership by a man;

~ Even these days in most household where a woman is working outside the home its her ‘duty’ to take care of cooking…children etc while her husband is so ‘helping’ by offering to do little chores;

~Phrases like ‘Ladies First’ ,‘How can you talk to a lady like that?’
